Khit / Saw (NSS) - Sep 4
U Kyaw Myo Win, Director of the Department of Archaeology and National Museums (Bagan), said to The NSS that the original floor of the Shwezigon Pagoda's square is being excavated and restored for public viewing.
The Department of Archaeology and National Museum, under the Ministry of Religion and Culture, adheres to published laws, management frameworks, and guidelines in its heritage conservation efforts within the Bagan World Heritage Area.
According to the statement, it is reported that responsible department officials, along with related departments, heritage preservation committees, and those assisting in the preservation of heritage, are coordinating and collaborating in carrying out these activities.
"We are still in the process. Based on the detailed drawings, we will fill in the missing sandstone slabs. Once the filling is done, we will level them. After leveling, we'll ensure proper drainage, so that water flows smoothly. We will then present it in a way that the public can easily understand and learn from. We’ll explain that these are the original sandstone slabs used during the initial construction of the Shwezigon Pagoda, and this is part of a preservation plan to provide educational insights for the public," said U Kyaw Myo Win.
It is reported that during the restoration and preservation efforts, the Department of Chemistry is cleaning the stains on the sandstone using chemical methods, and removing the stains. Additionally, statues that have deteriorated or broken along the pagoda entry corridors are being repaired and restored.
Additionally, it is reported that cleaning operations are being carried out on the silk and cotton threads found in the ancient murals within the corridors, and efforts are ongoing to preserve and protect these ancient artifacts and heritage items.
Additionally, it is reported that at the Sulamani Pagoda, the original flooring from previous years has been displayed, and at the Saytanargyi Pagoda, the original flooring is also exhibited, enclosed in glass.
