Thiri Khit Oo (NSS) - July 19
On July 18, 2024, India's Ambassador to Myanmar, H.E. Mr. Abhay Thakur, donated advanced medical equipment to Yangon General Hospital.
The donation included a Bhabhatron II Advanced Telecobalt Cancer Therapy Machine, a Digital Radiotherapy Machine, and a Digital Radiotherapy Simulator. These machines will be vital for treating vulnerable cancer patients in Myanmar.
At the handover ceremony, India's Ambassador, H.E. Mr. Abhay Thakur, emphasized that the donation is part of India's development cooperation program. This program provides both project-based and humanitarian assistance to strengthen Myanmar's healthcare system and improve the lives of its people. The Ambassador highlighted that India has already extended similar equipment and training to hospitals in Mandalay, Monywa, Sittwe, and Naypyidaw, demonstrating India's ongoing commitment to Myanmar's development.
Myanmar and India share a close and enduring relationship, strengthened by India's Act East Policy and Neighborhood First Policy. This was evident in India's prompt delivery of humanitarian aid during the COVID-19 crisis and Cyclone Nargis.
Myanmar and India are collaborating on various initiatives to promote all-round development in both mainland and border regions. These initiatives include connectivity projects like the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project, Trilateral Highway, and Sittwe Port development, as well as multi-sectoral capacity building programs like the India Myanmar Industrial Training Centers, Quick Impact Projects, Rakhine State Development Program, and Border Area Development Program.
India's Ambassador emphasized their commitment as a good neighbor by highlighting initiatives that promote peace and stability along the border regions. These initiatives aim to build a robust socio-economic infrastructure, ensuring equal access to healthcare, education, livelihood opportunities, and business prospects for all citizens in Myanmar.
