Over 50 registered political parties in Myanmar to hold online meeting in late November
Khit / Munich (NSS) - Nov 19
It is reported that over 50 political parties, granted registration under the new Political Parties Registration Law imposed by the State Administration Council, will soon hold meetings.
The meeting will be held online in late November, following the Tazaungdaing holiday.
“We have plans to convene an online meeting of over 50 political parties after Tazaungdaing. We will inform all parties of the specific date and proceed based on the consensus reached,” said U Yan Naing Win, Vice-Chair of the Federal Democratic Party, in an interview with The NSS.
The political party working group, recently constituted from among the parties granted registration permission under the new Political Party Registration Law, is currently engaged in dialogue with both the incumbent State Administration Council and ethnic armed organizations that are signatories to the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement.
“The primary goal of the meeting is to foster unity among the over 50 political parties,” said Vice-Chair U Yan Naing Win. “We share a common objective, and the focus will be on the current political landscape, including interactions with the military government. When discussing constitutional amendments, we believe it's crucial to incorporate the voices of all 50+ parties, not just our group of 16.”
Under the State Administration Council government led by Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, a number of political parties sought re-registration under the newly enacted Political Parties Registration Law, while others opted not to do so.
Prominent political parties, such as the National League for Democracy (NLD), the Shan Nationalities League for Democracy (SNLD), and some others, did not reapply for registration. As a result, they have been dissolved under the new law.
