Inmates from the prisons across the country were reduced one sixth of their total terms of imprisonment by the State in the honour of the country’s Diamond Jubilee Anniversary of Independence Day.

The #amnesty is allowed as per Section 401 (1) of the Code of Criminal Procedures but excludes the prisoners those who committed murder and rape, and/or those who violated sections under the Explosive Substances Act, the Unlawful Association Act, Section 19 (f) of the Arms Act 1878, the Arms (Emergency Penalty held) Act, The Arms (Temporary Amendment) Act, 1924 Shan State Arms Order, Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law, Disaster Management Act, Anti-terrorism Law, and Anti-Corruption Law.
