Upper Kengtawng Hydropower Plant expected to be completed in 2025 - 26 FY

The Ministry of Electric Power (MOEP) reported that the Upper Kengtawng Hydropower Plant project which has been implementing for more than 15 years is expected to be completed in the 2025-26 financial year.
The report states that construction of the Upper Kengtawng Hydropower Plant commenced in 2008-2009.
With 82 percent of construction completed at present, the MOEP anticipates that the whole project will be finished during the 2025-26 financial year.
An official from the MOEP informed The NSS that “Construction of the Upper Kengtawng Hydropower Plant began in the 2008-2009 period. Presently, approximately 82 percent of the construction work has been finished, and the entire project is slated for completion during the 2025-26 financial year. The project has an installation capacity of 51 megawatts”
The project completion was primarily targeted in 2024-25 financial year.
Once fully operational, these hydropower plants are projected to produce 267 million kilowatt-hours per annum. The project consists of three individual power stations, each with an installed capacity of 17 megawatts, adding up to a combined output of 51 megawatts.
Situated in some 14 miles southwest of Kengtawng Town in southern Shan State, the Upper Kengtawng Hydropower Plant harnesses the power of Namteng Creek for electricity generation.
In conjunction with the development of the Upper Kengtawng Hydropower Plant, the MOEP is also overseeing several other projects including the Thahtay Hydropower Project, Upper Yeywa Hydropower Project, Nam Pan hydroelectric power project, and Hwe Htike small-scaled hydropower project.
