The Deputy Director-General of the Union Election Commission, namely, Sai Kyaw Thu was assassinated by terrorists this afternoon (April 22) in Yangon’s Thingangyun Township, a reliable source close to the security forces confirmed NP News.  

The terrorists fired at least 12 gunshots in assassinating the deputy director-general. The victim was injured in neck, head, chest and hand. 

However, Sai Kyaw Thu died on the way to Thingangyun Hospital. 

The incident happened at an estimated 2 pm near Aung Yadana Hospital today while he was on the way after he dropped off his wife at the hospital, the source said. 

The State Administration Council’s Information Team confirmed the news media of the assassination of the Deputy Director-General of the Union Election Commission.

The Deputy Director-General Sai Kyaw Thu made witness statements on behalf of the plaintiff for the court case of electoral malpractices conducted by the former State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi and the former President Win Myint in vote riggings.
