Terrorists explode Yangon-Mandalay railway again
Khit /Pearl (NSS) - May 29
According to the statistics released by the State Administration Council (SAC), terrorists sabotaged the Yangon-Mandalay railway section again on 24 May.
The exploded areas involved between Phyuu City and Nyaungbinthar Town located in Bago Region near the milepost No. 126/7/8. According to the revealed data, it has been a total of more than 200 times of sabotages and exploding the railways and stations.
As a result of the mine explosion, about 4 feet of the track broke off and about 5 blocks of concrete sleepers were damaged.
“It happened near Patta village. No one was injured nor the train was damaged. The mine exploded before the train passed. Therefore, train schedule to Naypyidaw was suspended at Nyaunglaybin Station and also, schedule to Yangon was stopped at Phyuu Station,” a source close to the security forces told The NSS.
At present, some trains have also stopped at Nyaunglaybin Station and Phyuu Station and some travel schedules have been suspended temporarily. In addition, the relevant officials have been conducting to repair the damaged railway.
“The military uses the railway sometimes for transporting cargos and ammunition. But it is only seldom and sometimes. The terrorists explode by providing reason that the military is using the railway. Therefore, only the public is encountering difficulties due to those explosions. The public is not safe. In addition to it, commodity flows have also been halted. In this incident, all trains were suspended at Phyuu Station. The suspension of commodity flows will also cause struggles for the government and the people. As a consequence, commodity prices will also skyrocket which will be the burden for the people. Also on the Yangon-Mawlamyine railway, betel leaves and durians carried by the trains were rotten. Destroying railways only affects the public,” a resident said.
On 1 May, the terrorists also detonated Nganuthan bridge and railways near Kanyuntkwin Township.
It has been a total of 205 times of exploding and sabotaging in the whole network of Myanmar train network since 1 February 2021 to present.
