Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) which is at the moment being constructed to combat the infectious disease, is expected to open in the upcoming January 2024, according to the Department of Infectious Disease Control under the Ministry of Health (MOH).

Director of the Department of Infectious Disease Control, Dr. Nyan Win Myint informed that Myanmar’s CDC and Health Staff Training School which started construction in January 2021, is expected to open in January 2024.

“At present, nearly 85 percent of the construction has been completed as of November. However, we cannot confirm the exact date for opening yet. But it may be in the third or last week of January. Negotiations will be discussed between the MOH and China,” Dr. Nyan Win Myint said.

Myanmar’s CDC has been constructed in Dekkhina Thiri Township located in Naypyidaw and it is an international-level project worth about 400 million Yyuan.

The center will provide medical treatment for diseases such as HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria, including infectious diseases such as Covid-19.

“Myanmar CDC will provide medical treatment for diseases such as HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria, including infectious diseases like Covid-19. Then, the Department of Public Health will cooperate with other international organizations, including China, and will carry out more plans for disease prevention, control activities and research activities,” he continued.

The project was constructed under the Myanmar-China cooperation.

The Myanmar CDC center is an international-level disease control center, including laboratories up to Biosafety Level 3, international-level laboratories, disease control systems, and three-storey building of disease control.

In addition, there is a three-storey building for teaching purposes to 400 trainees and a two-storey building for administrative offices.
