On 26th November, the State Administration Council (SAC) announced that the terrorists sabotaged 81 electricity towers, causing widespread destruction over a three-year period while superficially claiming that they are fighting for democracy.

The SAC reported that terrorists, along with their affiliated armed groups, have targeted state-owned banks, private banks, departmental offices, state-owned infrastructure, private properties, industries, factories, telecommunication towers, and electricity towers through acts of sabotage.

In the SAC statement, it is indicated that, as a result of bombings, explosions, and arson orchestrated by terrorists, a total of 81 electricity towers were destroyed between February 2, 2021, and November 16, 2023. 

"The destruction of 81 towers, primarily through mine explosions, particularly in Kayah State, has severely impacted the electricity distribution across the entire region. Efforts are underway by authorities to combat those challenges and enhance the development of the electricity sector," stated Major General Zaw Min Tun, spokesperson of the SAC.

The majority of acts of sabotage on power towers were primarily carried out within Kayah State.

"The socio-economic life of people and the progress of the electricity sector has been hindered by the destruction of electric towers and transmission operators orchestrated by terrorists. Despite their claims of promoting democracy, these terrorists are steering the state towards total devastation," he added.

The detonation and subsequent destruction of these electricity towers have resulted in a suspension of the country's development, causing significant losses. People who rely on electricity for their daily activities are now facing considerable hardships.
