It is reported that more than 30 people were dead during the explosion near KIA Headquarters located in Laiza Township.  

On 9th October, the explosion took place at a refugee camp located two miles away from Laiza. 

International media reported without sound evidence that the Myanmar military attacked on the camp for internal displaced people. 

However, the spokesperson of the State Administration Council Major General Zaw Min Tun responded to the media on 10th October that they are conducting necessary investigations relating to the explosion and the ground situation. 

He said “Relating to Laiza incident, we are also conducting the necessary investigations. One thing is that we are always taking care of the border area's stability. Therefore, it is worth considering the fact that whether airstrikes by our Military during the middle of the night especially in border areas very close to other country is possible or not. We have already said that as a Military, we can start fighting at any headquarters of the insurgent group at any time. However, we did not do it.” 

He continued, “One thing I can say for sure is that the area where the explosion took place is the place where the KIA attacked the Myanmar Military bases with drop bombs using UAV and the place, they dropped the bomb at the Military column. Now the area was exploded and the investigations are still ongoing.” 

Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Tun said that the incident was happened since the exploded area is known to be the place where drop bombs are kept. 

According to Chairman of the Lisu National Development Party (DooLay Party) Shwe Min, the explosion occurred refugee camp is located only two miles away from the KIA Headquarters where most of the people living in that area are the families of the KIA.  

Relating to the incident, the KIO/ KIA has not made any public announcement yet.
