A Buddhist monk in Kyauktaga becomes 75th recorded Buddhist monk assassinated by PDF terrorists
NSS – July 11
A Buddhist monk in Kyauktaga Township aged 60 was shot dead by the terrorists in Bago Region.
The local people recounted to NP News that the Venerable Monk U Sujata residing at the Monastery in Sint Owe Hla village located in Kyauktaga Township was assassinated around 10 pm on 9th July.
According to local people, Sayardaw U Sujata was shot dead in a short range within monastery compound by the terrorists. He is 60 years old with 25 years of monkhood.
Due to the shooting, Sayardaw U Sujata died from a gunshot wound to the throat and face. He passed away on the spot.
“The assassination took place around 10 pm last night. The body is cremated today. It was a gunshot. The head of the monastery has moved to Kyaukaga township for ten days since he was threatened. He was assassinated while he was left at the monastery alone.” one of the local people said.
In Myanmar, the total number of Buddhist monks assassinated by PDF terrorists is now up to 75 Sangha according to available data. There are much more extrajudicial killings targeting the Buddhist monks by the PDF terrorists across the country beyond reach of journalists.
The Chairman of the Arakan Front Party Dr. Aye Maung told NP News “These ruthless assassinations will have huge impacts on our cultural, historical, and national aspects. This is something hard to believe. If you ask me whether should it be or not. Of course, it should not be. I just want different stakeholders to consider the country’s future and should consider for nation-building.”
During the ongoing political conflicts in Myanmar, more than 6000 civilians including Buddhist monks, governmental staff, and civilians have lost their lives in the extrajudicial killings by the PDF terrorists.
The currently administering State Administration Council (SAC) cannot effectively protect against these ruthless extrajudicial killings and the terrorists do not seem to stop committing these assassinations.
