Army Chief shows concerns for security measures for teachers
NSS - Nov 30
The Chairman of the State Administration Council stated that schools and universities in unstable regions would be reopened as soon as possible.
He addressed it during the State Administration Council meeting 6/2023 at the SAC Chairman’s Office in Naypyidaw on 29th November.
He also mentioned during the meeting that the rector, lecturers, and faculty members of Loikaw University were abducted by the KNPP and PDF terrorists.
He stated, "Targeting non-military infrastructures, such as schools and universities, and abducting civilians, including students and faculty members, constitutes a clear violation of the Geneva Convention. Hence, it is not acceptable."
Responding to the pleas and appeals from local residents and religious organizations, KNPP and PDF terrorists released 193 out of the total 204 abducted civilians. As a result, 11 individuals remain in captivity.
As a result of the terrorist actions carried out by the KNPP and PDF terrorists, the scheduled exams at Loikaw University were canceled.
The SAC Chairman emphasized, "The impact of these terrorist acts extends beyond just the students; their parents also have to suffer. These actions have significantly disrupted the socio-economic life of the community. What is more, Loikaw Technology University, the Institute of Computer Technology, and the Institute of Education were forced to shut down. Additionally, Hakha University remains unable to reopen at this time."
While the universities officially reopened on November 23, only a few students attended classes, primarily due to security concerns and the prevailing unstable conditions. The Chairman acknowledged the situation, stating, "Yes, the universities were closed. We aim to reopen them at the earliest opportunity. At the same time, we must implement measures to ensure the future security of lecturers and teachers."
He also mentioned that efforts are underway to resume the normal operation of all schools across the country.
Senior General also remarked that the education sector in Shan State (East), Kayah State, and Chin State is already lagging behind. The closure of universities in Kayah State and Chin State has further exacerbated the situation, resulting in a setback for the education of children in those regions.
