The archeology community has suggested that base camps should be built in the historical Gwaychaung Fort for the convenience of tourists.

Built in the year 1222 of the Myanmar Era, the large fort is located in the Bagan Archeological Zone and it took three years to build in the bygone history.

At present, there are no public restrooms in the fort, therefore, there are difficulties to throw trashes.

“Fort is an interesting place in foreign countries. But in Myanmar, anyone doesn’t maintain it. Since there is no toilet, some visitors defecate and throw trashes at random place. That can harm our reputation when tourists visit to us,” an official from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture (Bagan Division) told NSS. 

Therefore, he suggested that the base camps should be built in the historic fort for the convenience of domestic and foreign tourists and employment opportunities for locals. 

“If we build the base camps, food stalls and toilets there, the visitors will have a discipline routines there. It should be renovated since it is a historical fort. Base camp construction can also provide the job opportunities for local residents,” he added. 

The fort is one of the places visited by tourists, and it is said to be the largest of the forts in Myanmar, which was built during the Konbaung dynasty era.
