Persons who are assisting Myanmar workers in Thailand reported that nine Myanmar nationals who entered Malaysia unlawfully were arrested by the Malaysian army near Bukit Kayu Hitam, located on the Thailand-Malaysia borderline on 26 December.
As per information, the Malaysian authorities were reported illegal foreigners arrived in the rubber garden that is located near Buki Kayu Hitam on 26 December morning. The Malaysian army investigated the site accordingly and seized five male and four female Myanmar citizens who entered Malaysia unlawfully.
The source told the NSS, “We received information that nine Myanmar citizens were arrested in the border area in Malaysia territory. Of course, we are assisting Myanmar workers' affairs in Thailand, this case will be handled by those who are in Malaysia. As far as I know, they have crossed Thailand first illegally; then, they arrived there.”
The report states that the captured Myanmar nationals have been transferred to the Bukit Kayu Hitam police station by the Malaysian army. It also further states that Malaysian authorities are conducting tight security processes to prevent illegally entering to their land.
Many Myanmar youths have been seeking employment opportunities abroad since the country has been stuck in recession and lack of job opportunities following the 2021 political transition.
