Thousands seek refuge in India’s Mizoram as armed tension high in Chin State
Hsu/ Kyaw (NSS) – Nov 14
Thousands of local residents are reportedly seeking refuge in the Indian state of Mizoram as a result of armed conflicts between Myanmar Military and insurgents on the Myanmar-India border in Falam Township, Chin State.
The armed conflicts commenced in the afternoon of November 12th. Reports indicate that the Chin National Army, in collaboration with the Chinland Defence Force (CDF)-Hualngoram, initiated the attack at a hilltop near Rikhawdar township where security forces are stationed.
A local resident informed NSS, "The armed conflicts began during the night. Gunshots and heavy weapons fire were audible, and because it was nighttime, evacuating elsewhere was not possible for us. Consequently, many of us had to find hiding spots. Some individuals fled immediately. As of this morning, starting at dawn, numerous civilians from Rikhawdar township are moving towards the Mizoram side."
Heavy artillery shells fell and exploded in the Zokhawthar Village of Mizoram State, where Myanmar displaced persons from armed conflicts have sought refuge. The intense weapon attack resulted in numerous injuries among the displaced persons.
It is reported that responsible persons from Zokhawthar Village assisted the Myanmar displaced persons in transporting wounded ones to hospital.
