In preparation for a potential referendum, the Union Election Committee (UEC) demonstrated and explained about the Myanmar Electronic Voting Machine (MEVM) to various political parties.

On September 5th, the UEC convened at the Yangon Region Government Office and conducted an orientation and demonstration on test voting for representatives from 36 political parties.

Notably, these electronic voting machines eliminate the need for traditional printed ballots and can also be deployed for possible by-elections, as stated by Deputy Director General of the UEC, Nyi Nyi Lwin.

Nyi Nyi Lwin highlighted by saying that, "When the Hluttaws convene, there may arise situations where Members of Parliament seek to amend the Constitution. During these conditions, decisions will be made, and ultimately, referendums will be conducted to pass legislation." 

In addition, the MEVM will find application in various electoral processes, including Municipal Elections.  

Dr. Aye Maung, Chairman of the Arakan Front Party, said that "I believe the voting machine is highly reliable. With a simple button press, the vote is recorded. In the event of any dispute within the respective constituency, the number of printed ballots from the voting machines can be easily checked. There is almost no room for error; if one hundred voters cast their votes, precisely one hundred ballots will be produced."  

The UEC further informed that, using the MEVM, approximately 200 voters will be able to cast within a single hour, leading to swift results.
