The Cultural Wing of the Indian Embassy in Myanmar launched a series of Yoga sessions as part of celebration for the 9th International Day of Yoga (IDY).

The schedule for the events in different locations has been issued by the Cultural Wing.

“First event had been kicked off on 3rd June at Kandawgyi Lake, with the background of Shwedagon Pagoda,” Ms. Reeta Meena, the Second Secretary of the Indian Embassy in Yangon told NP News – English.

As per information, 50 participants involved in the event at the Kandawgyi Lake. One of them is Aol Ritam, the Yoga teacher from ‘Art of Living Myanmar’.

The ‘Art of Living Myanmar’ is one of the experienced Yoga Centers in Myanmar. It has been operating for nearly two decades since it opened in Myanmar in 2006.

“The teacher Aol Ritam has many relevant certificates in Yoga and he has been working as a Yoga teacher for more than ten years,” said the Art of Living Myanmar continuing that he will participate again in the event at the Indian Embassy on the IDY.

Other places for the Yoga practice events for the 9th IDY will involve Inle Lake, Chatrium Hotel in Yangon, Bagan, and Goethe Institute in Yangon on different set dates, according to the schedule released by the Cultural Wing.

According to the Indian historical records, Yoga has developed in Northern India over 5,000 years ago.

The International Day of Yoga has been developed since 2015 thanks to the Indian Prime Minister Modi as he proposed at the United Nations General Assembly in 2014 to praise the Indian originated ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice globally. It is learnt that the word ‘yoga’ derives from Sanskrit and means to join or to unite, symbolizing the union of body and consciousness.

Last but not least, there are classes in different sectors at the Indian Center including Yoga classes, Hindi language classes and Indian traditional dance classes. Fees for all classes charge only 10500 MMK per month plus 6300 MMK registration fees, according to Ms. Reeta Meena.

She also said that there are approximately 70 students at the Yoga classes at the Indian Center.
