Delegations of the State Administration Council (SAC) and Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs) are discussing and seeking an opportunity to convene a peace conference that will be different from the Union Peace Conference (which was held led by then-President Thein Sein Administration) and the 21st Century Panglong (which was held by led by former State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi).

Seven NCA- signatory EAOs and the National Solidarity and Peace Negotiation Committee (#NSPNC) conducted an informal talk for two days in Naypyidaw in recent days.

In the two-day informal meeting, representatives of both sides discussed the affairs related to creating an atmosphere in which a peace conference can be convened; protecting citizens and civilians; getting a common consensus; regional stability; and holding the election.

“To say frankly, with regard to the peace conference, we will report to the relevant leaders of 7 NCA – S- EAOs about the facts proposed by the NSPNC. There will be another meeting,” Colonel Saw Kyaw Nyunt told NP News.

He continued that the seven NCA-S-EAOs will continue making efforts to hold the peace conference with the consensus of both sides.

Saw Kyaw Nyunt remarked that there were advantages even before convening the Union Peace Conference and 21st Century Panglong Conference as fire exchanges ceased in many territories and the NCA was signed by the EAOs before convening the conferences. What is more, the stakeholders had chances to participate from the relevant point of view in the politically discussed framework.

However, there are many challenges and threats in the present situation.

“No matter what we are naming it Peace Conference or the peace talk, there are many challenges and difficulties to prevent firing between groups in order to create peace. However, we will formulate the situation in which a peace conference that will be different from the Union Peace Conference and the 21st Century Panglong,” he continued.

The State Administration Council declared to continue formulating the peace based on the 2008 Constitution and the NCA paths.
