According to statistics from the Ministry of Commerce, more than 8 million tons of corns have been exported via sea routes within the first 11 months of the current financial year, marking the highest maize sea export volume.

From April 2023 to February 2024, over 11 months, a total of 891,038 tons of corns were exported. Notably, February alone saw a significant increase with 365,472 tons exported, coinciding with the seasonal shift.

For exports, 75% of the goods have been shipped via bulk carriers, while 25% have been transported in containers. Thailand and the Philippines are the major destinations for these exports.

For corn exports, both sea routes and border trading routes are utilized for transportation in Myanmar.

Furthermore, corn traders have reported a reduction in exports compared to previous years due to challenges along trade routes, despite the tax exemptions granted from February 1 to August 31.

A corn trader mentioned, "Exports primarily flow through Myawaddy to Thailand with tax exemptions. However, this year, the trading route conditions have deteriorated, leading to reduced trade. Some have shifted to sea routes."

Thailand currently receives corn exports primarily from the Tachileik trade center. Preparations are underway to utilize the Myawaddy route as well. Nevertheless, only a small quantity of corn produced in the region can be exported due to transportation challenges.
