Chairman of the Union Election Commission (UEC) U Soe Thein and the members were invited to study the Russian Presidential Election following the talk by the UEC chair and the Russian delegation led by Ambassador H.E. Mr. Iskander Azizov in Naypyidaw on 16 January. 

During the meeting, the Russian Ambassador invited the high rank members of the UEC to Russia to study their presidential election process which is scheduled to be held in March. 

The discussion involved the plans proposed by the Russian side in order to facilitate in the study tour of the Myanmar UEC personnel. Other plans for electoral cooperation between Myanmar and Russia were also discussed. 

Russian Presidential Election is reportedly scheduled to be held from 15 to 17 March. 

In recent months, Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Myanmar’s UEC and the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation on cooperation in electoral activities.
