The Kokang terrorist group known as ‘MNDAA’ launched a reckless assault on Dong Chen territory, resulting in the deaths of eight innocent civilians and injuries 21 others, according to reports.

A resident of Dong Chen informed NP News that the MNDAA committed a shooting against the civilians on December 25 in front of the Crown Hotel located on Kawdong 3 Road in Dong Chen, Laukkai Township. 

The abovementioned source said, “The MNDAA terrorists killed the civilians for no reason in Kawdong 3 Street, in front of the Crown Hotel. In fact, there is no military personnel in Dong Chen now. There are only MNDAA troops in the city. I don’t know why they do that. Those who were killed are all Kokang ethnics. Eight were killed and 21 others were wounded.” 

The Dong Chen territory is sometimes called as Laukkai Myo Thit (New Laukkai) which was extended as a part of the Laukkai Township.

Currently, the MNDAA has gained control over the Dong Chen territory, and there are reports indicating that Kokang residents are being compelled to join the MNDAA, as per a source.

The report further states that since the local Kokang residents are being compelled to join the MNDAA, those who refuse to join the armed group are frequently subjected to fatal shootings like the abovementioned incident.

In addition, Human Rights Watch (HRW) has officially disclosed that the MNDAA armed group has been forcibly recruiting and kidnapping people who are being displaced.

Since October 27th, the three terrorist group of the Northern Alliance, led by the MNDAA, have been launching attacks on Myanmar Military security bases in northeastern Shan State.

Due to the assaults carried out by the MNDAA group, heightened tensions and armed clashes have recently erupted in and around Laukkai city, leading to significant damage to civilian properties and infrastructure in the area.
