The State Administration Council (SAC) reported that the Myanmar delegation discussed with International Court of Justice (ICJ) President Joan Donoghue on the matter related to the next steps regarding the case filed against Myanmar at the ICJ. 

The Myanmar delegation headed by Union Cabinet Office Minister Ko Ko Hlaing and Legal Affairs Minister Dr. Thida Oo left for The Hague on September 24.

At the ICJ in The Hague on September 26, the Myanmar delegation met with representatives from The Gambia, including the ICJ president.

In that meeting, they discussed the next steps regarding the case filed by the Gambia against Myanmar, the SAC reported.

The Gambia filed a lawsuit against Myanmar at the ICJ accusing that Myanmar violated the International Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the 1948 Genocide.

It is reported that the Gambia submitted its petition to the court on October 23, 2020 regarding the filing of the case.

On August 24, 2023, Myanmar's counter-argument was submitted to the court on the claim, according to SAC.

According to information from the SAC, the SAC has prepared and established the Steering Committee on Litigation at the ICJ in the last few months.

In addition, Minister Ko Ko Hlaing and Minister Dr. Thida Oo have been assigned as the vice-chairmen of the steering committee, and Border Affairs Minister Lt. Gen. Tun Tun Naung, Immigration and Manpower Minister Myint Krayin, and Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Minister Dr. Soe Win have also been assigned as members.

Furthermore, in the committee, the Deputy Ministers from Home Affairs, Defense and Foreign Affairs including Lt. Adjutant General, Soe Min Oo, Judge Advocate General, Myo Thant Naing have been appointed as members and assigned by the SAC.
