The former Union Election Commission (locally called U Hla Thein Commission) amended Section 10 of the electoral bylaw following the spoken orders given by ex-President #Win_Myint, according to the findings researched by the current Union Election Commission (UEC).

The UEC recently published “Investigations and Findings on 2020 Electoral Frauds and Unlawful Acts”.

The former Union Election Commission (U Hla Thein Commission) amended that voters shall live for at least 90 days at their current address located in the constituency instead of 180 days. The mentioned amendment was made as per the desire of ex-President Win Myint, according to Paragraph No. 44, page 38 of the recent publication of the UEC.

U Hla Thein Commission promulgated Order No. (55/2019) on October 3, 2019 for the amendment of Bylaw Section 10, which originally prescribed that voters are required to reside at a minimum of 180 days at their current address to be involved in the eligible voter lists.

However, U Hla Thein Commission amended it ‘Voters are required to reside a minimum of 90 days at their current address to be involved in the eligible voter lists.

’At that time, many political parties opposed the abovementioned amendment. The former UEC chairman Hla Thein met with the former president Win Myint on May 21, 2019 and received Win Myint’s instructions for amendments to electoral laws and bylaws.
