Conservation project for Mocha hit Thatbyinnyu Temple be aided by Chinese experts

It is reported that experts from China have already submitted the proposal to respective departments from both countries for restoration of Tantbyinnyu Temple in Bagan which was damaged in recent Cyclone Mocha.
At the time being, the conservation and restoration project hasn’t yet commenced but buildings in the temple environment are being fixed in the damaged parts.
“Before the maintenance works have been started, researches and studies are currently being conducted. What is more, the Chinese experts have already submitted their proposal to reconstruct and restore the temple to the department. When the authorities approve their conservation plan, the project will be commenced,” Myint Than, Director of Bagan Cultural Area Archaeology told NP News.
The proposed plan will be reviewed and added suggestions by members of the Cultural Heritage Protection and Conservation Committee of Mandalay Region and relevant officials from Bagan office of the committee.
The project will only be commenced when the approval is granted by the relevant authorities. The project is a nine-year plan that will be implemented under cooperation with China.
It is reported that China and Myanmar signed agreement for reconstruction in September 2018. Then in April 2019, emergency maintenance works for Thatbinnyu Temple was carried out.
In August 2016, 6.8 magnitude earthquake hit central Myanmar that damaged 389 ancient stupas in Bagan including Thatbinnyu Temple.
