None of the Myanmar officials confirm the information that the No. 1 #Thai_Myanmar_Friendship_Bridge is re-opening soon, an officer from the Ministry of Commerce told NP News. At the current, news agencies from Thailand reported that the bridge will be reopened on January 12.

“It isn’t sure yet. No official notification has been made by either Thai or Myanmar side. That information is just spreading through. The permission to re-open has to be attained from higher ups from both countries. Currently, both Myanmar, Thai and China are considering the Covid-19 issue when it comes to the trade routes. Even if they (Thai or China) want to re-open the gate, the condition is required that we (the Myanmar side) has to be ready for it,” the official said.

At the moment, trades are conducted through Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge No. 2 and via Tachileik between the two countries. It has been more than two years that the No. 1 Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge has been closed since Covid pandemic period. Two blasts occurred near the No. 1 Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge in recent months.
