FM emphasizes Tatmadaw's adherence to Geneva Convention Rules of Engagement

The Union Minister for the Foreign Affairs addressed the recent developments in Myanmar, emphasizing the government's commitment to safeguarding the citizens from terrorist acts committed by the PDF terrorists.
The Union Minister Than Swe delivered a comprehensive briefing at Wun Zin Min Raja Hall located at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Yangon on 6th of July, 2023.
During the briefing, Minister Than Swe provided an update on the implementation of the ASEAN five-point consensus. He highlighted the importance of the cessation of violence, inclusive dialogues, and the provision of humanitarian assistance as key elements of this consensus.
Furthermore, the Union Minister revealed distressing statistics regarding the loss of innocent lives due to terrorist activities perpetrated by the PDF. A staggering number of individuals, totaling 5,938, (4,878 civilians and 1,060 public service personnel), tragically lost their lives in the terrorist act committed by the PDF terrorists.
Minister Than Swe expressed his concern that such destructive activities hinder the restoration processes necessary for normalcy and the establishment of democracy in Myanmar.
He emphasized that the Tatmadaw, the country's Military, strictly adhered to the peace agreement by refraining from initiating hostilities. Their actions were solely focused on defending innocent civilians, demonstrating maximum restraint, and minimizing the use of force in accordance with the Rules of Engagement outlined in the Geneva Convention.
