According to the Ministry of Electric Power, the electricity supply has been distributed back to eight townships where electric power lines were cut due to the recent Cyclone Mocha. 

As soon as the cyclone dissipated on May 14, the Ministry of Electric Power has been conducting repair work at the power grids and power stations which were destroyed by Mocha. 

Thanks to the repairing work, some villages and communities in Ponnagyun, Kyauktaw, Mrauk-U, Minbya, and Myaybon regained electric power back on the 7th, 18th, and 23rd June. 

Moreover, on 5th July, the 66kV Ponnagyun-Rathedaung power cable and 33kV Minbya-Pauktaw power cable repair works were fully completed. 

Therefore, the power distribution resumed for 2,097 electricity users from four wards and one village using 20 11/0.4kV transformers of 11kV (3) feeder of 66/11kV 5MVA Rathedaung sub-power station in the same afternoon.

The power distribution could be resumed back for 2,248 users from five wards using 22 11/0.4kV transformers of 11kV feeder (2) of 33/11kV 5MVA Pauktaw sub-power station in the same evening.

Currently, the power system has resumed in eight townships out of ten in Rakhine that were seriously hit by Mocha and the Ministry of Electric Power is also trying to repair the destroyed power grid and sub-stations.  

The Ministry also said that they are trying their best to supply power to the remaining two townships of Buthidaung and Maungdaw as quickly as possible
