The Union Minister emphasized the need for ongoing field enumeration in Kachin State, as approximately 70,000 household lists still need to be collected due to security conditions. 

Speaking at the coordination meeting of the Committee on Supervising Ground Census Enumeration (Kachin State), held at the meeting hall of the State Government Office, in Myitkyina on 2nd July, Union Minister for Immigration and Population U Myint Kyaing highlighted the importance of completing the data collection process.

For Kachin State, the number of field enumerations on households using e-ID software till 26th June 2023 is more than 260,000. 

Adding to this figure the more than 70,000 households collected through on-paper data collection, the total number of household lists gathered amounts to over 330,000. This figure represents 79.21 percent of completion on the targeted project. 

However, the Minister emphasized that there are still more than 68,000 household lists that remain to be collected due to existing security challenges. Urging the continuation of field enumerations in these areas, the Minister highlighted the importance of obtaining accurate data for the remaining areas. 

A pilot enumeration at various regions and states will be carried out starting from 1st October 2023 to get accurate data on population and household lists on a nationwide scale for the 2024 Population and Housing Census. 

To ensure precise data collection for the 2024 Population and Housing Census, a pilot enumeration will commence on October 1, 2023, covering various regions and states. Both random sampling and door-to-door systems will be used, with the assistance of mobile tablets.

Also, the implementation of the e-ID system and the collection of biographic and biometric data of individuals are also being carried out in respective regions and states.

Myanmar has previously conducted three official censuses in 1973, 1983, and 2014.

It is reported that the census plays a vital role in informing social, economic, and administrative matters in the country. The data and statistics obtained through the census are instrumental in the formulation and implementation of policies and projects that benefit the nation as a whole.
