Myanmar HR Commission urges continuation of education for matriculation-exam-passing prisoners

Myanmar National Human Rights Commission (MNHRC) said that they are going to encourage the relevant stakeholders for ensuring the continuation of education for those students who passed the matriculation examination from prison.
The MNHRC notified it on 13th June.
The Commission made an inspection visit to 54 prisons, 38 jails, the home for the aged, school for the PWDs and 26 juvenile centers starting from 2020 June to 2023 January.
After their inspection visit, they sent recommendation letters to respective responsible personnel for the continuation of prisoners’ education since some of the matriculation-passing-prisoners proposed to have further education.
During 2022-23 academic year, altogether 48 prisoners from Mandalay, Yamethin, Loikaw, Hpa-an, Naypyidaw and Bago Prisons sat for the matriculation examination. Amongst, 44 prisoners passed the examination and 41 from them passed with distinctions.
The Myanmar National Human Rights Commission announced that they will continue asking for the continuation of the education of these prisoners. The percentage of the students who passed the matriculation exam in prison is 91.67%.
