NP News – April 27 

Out of the total 13 political parties, that have applied for the right to establish new political parties at the Union Election Commission (UEC), three parties have been approved by the UEC for the establishment of the political parties under verification as of April 27.  

A total of 50 existing political parties have submitted for the renewal of the parties’ validity as per the  Political Parties Registration Law which was enacted by the SAC in January 2023.   

There are 13 political parties, currently, that submitted the applications for new establishment of the parties to the UEC, according to the data released by the SAC. 

Amongst, three parties were found to comply with the #political_parties_registration_law and bylaws, and the Union Election Commission approved the applications for the establishment of the three political parties namely Federal Democratic Party, Union Development Party and Democratic Forces of Labour Party. 

It is also announced by the Union Election Commission that the newly established political parties must apply to the Commission for registration as a political party under Rule 7 of the bylaw of the Political Parties Registration Law within 30 days from the date of approval. 

When these parties apply for registration, the application form must be signed by Party Chairman and Vice Chairman and must be submitted to the Commission personally. The political parties must also pay for the registration fees of 1,000,000 kyat to the Commission according to the enacted law and sections.  

If the political parties failed to apply for the registration within 30 days of approval, their right to establish as political parties will be automatically dissolved in accordance with Rule 5 of the bylaw of the Political Parties Registration Law. 

The other parties that have applied for party establishment are also being scrutinized on process by the UEC at the time. 

At present, a total of eight political parties have been approved by the UEC for the registration of both establishment and renewal.
