According to residents and NGO volunteers, reports indicate that Namtu Township in Shan State was raided by the Ta’ang terrorist ‘TNLA’ and PDF terrorists affiliated group on 27 December. Within Namtu Township lies the Bawdwin Mine, home to some of the world’s largest deposits of zinc, lead, and silver.

The military assault by the TNLA and PDF began on December 17, targeting the No. 324 Infantry and various locations within Namtu. By December 27, reports indicated that the No 324 Infantry had retreated, abandoning their infantry, resulting in the seizure of Namtu township by the TNLA.

A resident of Namtu informed NSS, stating, "TNLA has taken control of the entire township. The No 324 Infantry abandoned their station. During the night, airstrikes occurred, and we could hear one or two instances of heavy weapon fire."

On December 28, no armed conflicts occurred, but the TNLA and PDF groups blocked all exits from the towns. Consequently, social volunteer groups are reportedly waiting for the moment when the gates are opened to rescue those trapped inside Namtu.

A local volunteer said, “All gates in Namtu are closed, a small group of residents, including IDPs at the old Metal Factory, urgently need food assistance. Rescue workers are currently unable to reach them due to the closed gates.”

Since the onset of the assault by TNLA and PDF groups, the majority of residents have had to evacuate, seeking refuge in safer locations. As a result, only a handful remain within the town. Due to the hostilities, approximately 40 percent of Namtu has been destroyed.

He went on to mention, "There aren't many reported injuries. While there are rumors of casualties, verifying this is difficult as people are hesitant to venture outside. Approximately 40 percent of the town has visibly suffered destruction from the hostilities, with heavy weapon shells damaging civilian properties. Additionally, roadside explosions and bullet-riddled buildings are almost everywhere."

Since October 27th, the three alliances, namely MNDAA, TNLA, and AA, initiated Operation 1027, conducting raids on several security outposts and townships in the northern state.
