The working group of political parties is reportedly to be re-forming by May to take up the issue of Constitutional amendments.

Currently, the National Solidarity and Peace Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) under the State Administration Council (SAC) is requesting opinions and recommendations from the 45 registered political parties to facilitate the reorganization of the working group of political parties.

"The working group of political parties will be reorganized in May. Parties are expected to provide recommendations to the NSPNC by 7 April. Some parties are actively working on forming alliances to join the political party group," stated an official from a registered political party to The NSS.

He further mentioned that the political parties with registration approval must submit their recommendations to the NSPNC by 7 April, and he also stated the formation of a political party group in Yangon by May.

"The working group of political parties is required to provide suggestions regarding the constitutional amendment. The NSPNC intends to engage in regular discussions with this group. This group of political parties has the potential to serve as a representative delegation during discussions with EAOs," he elaborated.

After re-organizing the working group of political parties, discussions on the amendment of the 2008 Constitution are tentatively planned to be held once per month.

Furthermore, there is a possibility for meetings between the NSPNC, EAOs, and working group of the political parties to be held again in the future to discuss the Constitutional amendment. 

Under the SAC administration, the New Political Parties Registration Law was enacted and approximately 70 parties have applied for registration. Among them, over 45 parties have been granted registration approval in accordance with the law.
